Postdoc position – University of Berne, Switzerland

Within the research consortium “Biodiversity and Sustainable Management of a Megadiverse Mountain Ecosystem in South Ecuador”, Subproject A6 “Response of element cycles in a tropical mountain rain forest to environmental and land-use change” (http://www.tropicalmountainforest.org), the Soil Science group of the Geographic Institute at the University of Berne, Switzerland is seeking a Postdoc for three years beginning on the earliest possible date. The position comprises 100% work time and is paid according to the Swiss salary level (ca. 100.000 CHF annually).

Responsibilities:
- manage field work in Ecuador and laboratory analyses (AAS, CFA, TOC) of a large number of water, plant and soil samples (by organizing a field manager, laboratory technicians and students)
- handle large data sets
- evaluate time series of nutrient fluxes in a tropical mountain forest ecosystem
- model the biogeochemical element cycling to come up with environmental change scenarios
- contribute to teaching

Required skills:
- M.Sc. or equivalent in Soil Science, Biogeochemistry, Environmental Sciences, Physical Geography, Geoecology, Plant Ecology or related field.
- outstanding Ph.D.
- modelling experience
- proven English presentation and publication skills
- field experience in Latin America including Spanish knowledge (desired but not obligatory)
